Solid Aluminum Apple iPod Nano Cases

November 27th, 2007 by iDunzo

The Apple iPod Nano is so tiny and light that a chunky hard case would at least triple or quadruple it’s weight, defeating the whole point of the little player, right? Wrong.

Shimura Metal Jacket

The Metal Jacket weighs in at around 35 grams, versus the 3G Nano’s already featherweight 49 grams. The case is internally cushioned, and is hand made.

You can even dock the iPod with its jacket on. Geektastic!

This model is priced at ¥8,900 ($82) plus shipping, and maker Shimura also has models for the iPod Classic, the Sony PSP and Nintendo’s DS Lite.

And How Was Your Black Friday?

November 23rd, 2007 by iDunzo

GPS units are selling for two-thirds off, digital SLR cameras are near the $500 mark and plasma TV competition is hotter than ever.

So what do people get excited about this Black Friday? A dung-colored MP3 player whose initial user experience was likened to non-elective surgery.

CNN reports that hordes in Times Square were punching each other this morning to grab the original 30 GB Zune, now at the clearout price of $80.00 USD

Umm, people? You can get ’em online for around the same price. With free shipping. And it’s still a brown Zune that will likely require some registry hacking.

Reports from elsewhere were modestly encouraging for retailers, with customer lining up in the cold for sweet deals on TVs, laptops and DVD of TV shows you probably shouldn’t have wasted hours watching the first time.

I’d like to hear from y’all. Did anyone sleeping bag it outside a big box store? Was it worth it? Why and how are you awake and reading this now?

Unlocked Apple iPhones to be Sold in Germany for $1500

November 21st, 2007 by iDunzo

The court injunction awarded to Vodafone yesterday, barring T-Mobile from selling the iPhone only in a carrier locked state, has had swift effect.

T-Mobile announced today that it will sell the Apple iPhone unlocked and without a contract. The catch? €999, which is around $1,478.00 USD. Ouch!

This is breaking news, so I’m not sure what this actually means for the other cellphone carriers, and whether tech like Visual Voicemail will even work on their networks.

But to see the telcos fighting over the iPhone like a bunch of toddlers is both amusing and an interesting taste of the future, when all phones may be unlocked.

Lantic Systems $30,000 Gold Remote Control

November 19th, 2007 by iDunzo

Lantic Gold RC-1Meet the World’s stupidest remote control.

Sure, it has functionality to spare. It will control everything, including CCTV, air-conditioning, burglary alarm, lights, curtains, and even – the press release claims – the internet.

Well ok, maybe not the internet, but it did mention email and technically that’s part of the internet.

The problem here is that the $30,000.00 price tag is dictated solely by the decoration. The stock RC-1, from yacht makers Lantic Systems, is expensive at $1,050.00, but for what it does, not way overpriced.

The Gold RC-1, though, is exactly the same, except clad in gold.

That said, if you own a yacht, you’re probably the kind of sad showoff who needs to display his wealth by any means available.

If so, you can pre order now, for a December delivery.

2 Or 3 Android Handsets Coming From HTC In 2008

November 12th, 2007 by iDunzo

Google gPhoneAccording to Digitimes, which cites the Commercial Times (a Chinese paper), High Tech Computer has said it will design and engineer two or three handsets for Google’s Android mobile platform next year.

The information comes from statements at an analyst meeting made by HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou. His remarks have led people to believe that HTC will be the first to market with an Android phone.

In fact, the comments Chou made during last week’s Android announcement implied the same.

If this is the case, it isn’t too much of a stretch to believe that T-Mobile would be the carrier offering up such a device, as HTC and T-Mobile are pretty tight these days.

Not only did Chou spill the beans about Android phones, he also said HTC is working on a new 3G solution that is not based on Qualcomm’s chipsets.

Whether it is changing suppliers to STMicro, Texas Instruments, Broadcom, Ericsson, or developing a radio solution of its own is unknown.

HTC is also working on a next-generation touch-based user interface that it says will be better than its own TouchFlo UI, which appears on several of HTC’s smartphones.

Lastly, HTC is putting together a dual-mode handset, but not the kind you might think.

Rather than marry Wi-Fi and cellular radios, which is has done with more than a few handsets, it is pairing WiMax and TD-WCDMA, which is the home-grown Chinese flavor of WCDMA. This phone would strictly be for Chinese markets.

World’s Most Pointless Gadget: Plug Remover

November 12th, 2007 by iDunzo

Solutions - Pull-A-PlugLook at the picture and be astounded that this string-and-plastic widget will cost $9.95 USD a pair.

Billed as safe and convenient, it’s probably neither. That dangling string is just one more thing to get tangled in your power strip rats-nest.

Taken from the official sites product page:

Now you can safely and easily remove electrical plugs without damaging the cord. Pull-a-Plug is especially handy when removing plugs from a tightly packed power strip.

The question I have for anyone who might want to purchase this product? How hard is it to use your fingers for the job?
